2 DAY HUE TO PHONG NHA CAVE TOUR

Day 1: Hue to Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park
We will pick you up at your hotel (or at other pre-arranged location) in Hue around 8:30AM. Before we leave Hue we will ask you if you like to visit some Hue sights before we leave for the actual tour, in case you have not had time to visit Hue before. This is optional, but if you like we can stop at the Tu Duc tomb, Tien Mu Pagoda and Hue Citadel for some Hue sightseeing. Note that the entrance fees for these three sights is NOT included in the price.

After this we take a drive along the countryside where you will see, amongst others, a beautiful landscape, rice fields and small villages. The road to Phong Nha National Park, then continues along the coast, where you’ll get magnificent views of the ocean and white sand beaches. If you want to take a swim, of course we will make a short stop at the beach.

We now continue to the Vinh Moc tunnels. But before you get to walk around in the maze like tunnel system – made by the local villagers during the Vietnam War – we will have some lunch at a local restaurant. After the lunch break, you will first get the chance to visit the Vinh Moc museum, where you can learn a little bit about the amazing work of art that was made by the locals, in a very difficult time. Once you step out from the museum, you get to explore the tunnels together with the driver and/or a local guide, that can be hired.

After Vinh Moc, we head to Cua Tung beach, where we will stay for the night. Here you have the option to take a swim in the ocean, before or after, having dinner.

Day 2: Cua Tung beach to Phong Nha
After breakfast we go to the DMZ – the border between north and south Vietnam. When we continue, we drive onto the Ho Chi Minh Trail – the east road – and drive to Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park. Here we visit the Thien Duong Cave, or better known as the Paradise Cave, said to be one of the most beautiful and magnificent caves in the world. You will explore the cave for one or two hours – it is basically up to you, how long you want your visit to last. When finished, the guide will take you to your preferred drop off location. If you want to be dropped off at the bus- or train station (perhaps you want to continue to Hanoi or some other destination), then the guide will take you there. The guide will also be of assistance in buying the bus- or train ticket, if needed. If you, instead, want to stay longer in Phong Nha, we will drop you off at your hotel.

1 DAY DMZ TOUR

Leaving from Hue we ride north along highway 1 to Quang Tri town just south of the DMZ. We visit Long Hung Church and Quang Tri old Citadel, the site of a battle in 1972 between North and South Vietnam known as the “Battle of 81 days and nights”.

Next we will take you to the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), where you will see Hien Luong Bridge, Ben Hai River and the DMZ museum. After the historical sites of the DMZ, we will take you to the Vinh Moc tunnels. After a well deserved lunch break, you can visit the museum before venturing down into the maze like tunnel system.

Between 1966 and 1972 the US Army dropped over 9,000 tons of bombs in this area (that’s an average of 7 tons of bombs per person). To survive the local people built a network of tunnels and moved below ground. The tunnels stretch nearly 2,000m over 3 levels and are 30 meters below ground at their deepest.

In the afternoon we will drive along the countryside and the coast, where you can see rice paddies, farms, magnificent ocean views and much more. Here we stop on and off, when you like to take a photo, have a swim in the ocean or just wants to stretch your legs for a bit.

Around 5PM we will enter Hue again, and the driver will drop you off at your hotel, or other preferred location.
